Psychological Assessment:

Psychological assessments evaluate a client's areas of strength, as well as concerns that may be affecting their academic, social, emotional or behavioural functioning. An assessment typically takes place over three to four testing sessions, during which I examine a client's cognitive abilities, academic achievement, processing-skills related to learning (e.g., memory and attention) and their social, emotional and behavioural functioning. Information is gathered using standardized tests, questionnaires, interviews, observations, and a review of other available documents (e.g., school records, previous assessment reports). This process allows for a deep understanding of the client's needs, and facilitates in developing recommendations to better support their learning and development. When appropriate, diagnoses are given. Following the assessment sessions, a final session is conducted, during which verbal feedback and a written report of results are provided to clients and their parents/caregivers. Feedback to the client's school or other professionals can be provided upon parental request to facilitate programming or access to support services. Assessments to determine intellectual giftedness are also available.

Therapy:

Therapy provides a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their feelings and experiences, and to develop an understanding of presenting concerns. Although people choose therapy for many different reasons, struggles typically encountered by children, adolescents and youth include school difficulties, peer and family relationship conflict, anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem and trauma. Within therapy, clients are encouraged to explore their concerns and identify goals that will promote positive change. While under my care, clients are encouraged to be actively involved in developing insights and building skills that will help them cope effectively with their challenges. Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length, with the number and frequency of sessions depending on the presenting concerns. The therapy process begins with two initial consultations during which we discuss background information and concerns, establish goals for therapy, and determine the best approach to meeting the client's needs. Overall, the number and duration of sessions, and the therapeutic approach used depends upon the age and needs of the client. Therapy approaches that I currently offer include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Play Therapy and Family Therapy.

Consultations:

Consultations typically occur when parents/ caregivers have concerns about their child, or when adults have concerns about themselves and are uncertain about what supports and services would best meet their needs. Consultations allow clients to gain a quick insight into their concerns, and how best to address those concerns. Consultations consist of two 80-minute sessions. These sessions are devoted to gathering relevant background information and discussing client concerns. These sessions are followed by a 50-minute feedback session during which recommendations are shared and, if appropriate, diagnoses are provided.
